Sad 7 week old with broken ulna

Leonidas is a very fast little guy-he jumps around and on Christmas Eve (his first morning with us), he landed the wrong way and broke his proximal ulna (just below the elbow). The vet saw him that day and is speaking to the orthopedic vet-he goes in tomorrow to check the splint and hopefully to get more information on needed treatment. He is not in any pain (although he plays it up). It is very difficult to keep him off the leg. Since it doesn't hurt, he wants to run around just like before. I feel absolutely horrible for him. He's just a baby and shouldn't have to go through this. Does anyone have experience dealing with such a small puppy with a broken arm? Since he still has growth plates there isn't really any hard bone to anchor to...just lots of cartilage. I am really worried about him, his growth, and these all important early weeks where he should be learning and just having fun.
