yes, do a lot of research on the breed and my only other advice is to research your breeder just as much. Avoid pet stores as they get their pups from commercial breeders/puppy mills where they mass breed sometimes 1500 dogs or more at a time. The moms and dads live their whole lives in small cages without vet care, or proper shelter and food, thus producing very sick puppies which are sold. Another nice option is to rescue. You can try Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder. Type in your zip code and the breed and it will pull up all the available Yorkies in your area. Some are a little older but there are also puppies available. And, if you are open to a Yorkie mixed with something else (They call them designer dogs) you will find plenty. The upside is the adoption fee runs around $400 and that includes the spay or neuter as well as shots and vetting. Good Luck. Elaine (mom to five rescues and one spoiled Christmas pup)
