I use a spray bottle (with water) and squirt it on the ground between Rio's front paws and tell her "WRONG!". It just sort of snaps her out of her barking frenzy. It works well, and now all I have to do is show her the spray bottle and she know it's time to stop barking. I decided not to do the shake-the-can-filled-with pennies technique because she tends to be flighty and scared of loud noises anyway, and I didn't want to add to her fear.
