I play ALOT with Joey, take him for walks, talk him to puppy classes, teach him tricks, let him nap in my lap when he chooses. BUT, I also encourage him to play by himself. I don't want a dog who is dependent on me every minute of every day. I don't want a dog who demands attention. Ask for? yes. Demand? no. I want to eat in peace and visit with company without him demanding attention. I want him to entertain himself while I cook and do my other chores. So, when I see him happily playing alone, I mark it with a "Good boy, Joey".

I agree with FirstYorkie! I think when I get a puppy, I would want to hold him 24/7. But I think it is important to teach him how to be independent too... So good advice!
