You have to remember too that some yorkies do not break color until they are 2 or even 3 years of age. The ones I have seen break have a silky coat. I do believe that modified coats will break too.

But the terrier rough coats or wolly/cotton coats tend to stay the black. Here is a photo of my neutered pet - he is black and has a wooly coat. What a mess it is to groom! Mats even when you just groom him, so I keep him clipped down now. He is now 11 1/2 years old and still looks about the same - except a shorter coat. We had him neutered when he was young since we knew his coat and color was not to standard and did not want to breed for this.
