Since his coat is growing out beautifully, then you want to promote it and one of the secrets to growing a beautiful coat is to keep it clean. Show dogs are bathed every 4 days and kept in wraps. But, your Toby isn't a show dog so every 7 to 10 days. Never brush a dirty coat or a dry coat. Make sure you use a spray on leave-in conditioner before brushing. Another thing over working by over brushing a coat is just as bad as leaving in mats.
