To me, spices, water and a few tbsps of syrup is not "food" or an adequate form of nutrition. But, if convincing yourself that it is helps you justifiy not eating anything for a week for the sake of being "healthier" then knock yourself out.
Bottom line is, you're not eating for long periods of time and taking laxatives for the sake of losing weight and 'ridding your body of toxins,' of course. (Because who's going to openly promote behavior typical of severe eating disorders?) Your body needs proper nutrition and excercise DAILY. Truth be told, I actually find it the whole thing and the fact that it's openly discussed here and elsewhere very disturbing. I was a bit diturbed when I saw Beyonce boasting about it on Oprah, "Yeah kids, I dropped 20 lbs quick by not eating anything and just drinking lemonaide for a few weeks...run on out and try it."
But, that's just my opinion. |
This has nothing to do with trying something BAD for you (the crack comment) nor laxatives and an eating disorder. This country is full of eating disorders including the ones created by listening to the USDA and FDA telling us what's healthy when they have lied. Also there will always be people who abuse things (the Beyonce reaction by people) no matter how old they are, and unfortunately unless they are your kids you can't control that. All a person can do is work on themselves. Beyonce wasn't speaking to kids in that audience either, and she did say that she didn't recommend it the way she did it. She is a celebrity and they do stupid stuff at times. This is not a celebrity craze diet, it is a body cleansing. People should do research on the original Master Cleanse and the person who created it and ignore the pop culture diet version of it. This cleanse is just that...A CLEANSE...to jump start a person who is looking to change to a healthy lifestyle because it rids the body of things it would take months to rid of just on proper nutrition and exercise. You add those two things back to your life after you've cleaned out that gut!
It amazes me how so many people will defend something they haven't tried because of skeptism. But look around you, what do you see, ill and bloated Americans living on processed and altered foods, feeling and looking unhealthy but claiming that they don't need a detox. Scared to put down the fork for one week in their entire life and clean out their system. Perhaps one week is too much for most people. Put down the fork for three days and do a mini clean. Then when you pick the fork back up put proper nutrition in and start exercising.
