5 months is still a puppy for sure.
I remember Sophie Kate at 5 months, she was so cute and sassy and full of "puppiness".
As far as he appearance, I looked at her Christmas pictures from last year when she was six months and she looks so different. Her head is now completely gold where last year she had a some black hair still.
My advice is visit the puppy if you can, you will know if he/she is right for your family.
