All show dogs wear bows, so I think yours could just as well.

It is a matter of training the dog to hold still while you work on his hair. I start with having them sit on a table in front of me, and then move to a down position with head on their front feet. As soon as the head is down, I give a little massage to the head and ears. If I'm putting some moisturizer in the hair and gently massaging it in, it is the perfect opportunity to have them practice holding still. Pull a clump of the hair straight up and gather it. Massage some more, etc. etc. etc. Finally, without worrying about the parts or how much hair, put a latex (only latex) rubber band in with 3 wraps around. Give lots of praise. The dog will very soon take this out. Don't worry just wait until later in the day and do it again.
