I think it is a matter of preference and how long you will be leaving her. If you are just leaving for 30 minutes-an hour then I say go with a crate. If it is more than you can put the crate in the exercise pen, and a pee pad in the pen too (make sure its on a hard surface floor). I prefer crates, as pens take up too much room and are annoying to hop over.
