Default Beware central bark dog park!!!!!

I just got these emails from my meetup group. Dogs got sick after attending the meetup!

See below:

By the way, just wanted to ask anyone who was at the meetup on the 5th at Central Dog Park in Irvine ….did anyone have any of their pups get sick at all?? Perhaps a stomach flu? I had to rush Bentley in Monday evening after work to the Animal Hospital ….after a scare of not wanting to eat much since Friday the 11th…and all weekend and then Sunday night bouts of diarrahea and seemed to have been drinking more water than normal. By the time I got home Monday after work she threw up about 3-4 times and 3 were a mixture of mucous and blood which of course scared the heck out of me! Once I took her in and they checked her out, they gave her 3 injections…(one of them electrolytes) and an IV of fluids (was told she was dehydrated) and they took a stool sample which by the next day luckily came back all negative for Ghiarrdia, and any other possible causes…tapework, etc. They gave me antibiotics and another pill to give her…and as of this morning she seems to be doing better after looking like she had no energy and Monday night woke several times as if she were dumbfounded and staring into space. So, just wanted to let everyone have a heads up, yes dog’s can get the stomach flu, and hope that’s all it was...an expensive night that was. L

Just wanted to have everyone beware of the rain and puddles (since we have had a lot of rain) the possibility of Ghiarrdia is much greater so I was very worried!

Just another reason why the dog parks I have been trying to stay away from more so….so, if anyone can please find a park that we can have the dogs run loose would be great! The dog park in Fullerton seemed to be a bit dirty as well with what looked like dog owners with large dogs frequenting there did not pick up after their dogs and it was hard to keep our small dogs away from the mess. L I know Jennifer is doing a great job of trying to find another park…so, if anyone knows of somewhere please let us know!! Thanks so much! (P.S. Since most of us are in the Orange County area somewhere out here would be better I think?) Everyone Agree???

Yes, both Phaedra and Loki had diarrhea and decreased appetite for a couple of days afterward. I put it down to the contamination at the park. Then, 4 days after the event, Loki started croaking, this progressed to sniffing and coughing,….trip to the Emergency hospital in the evening…$270.00 later… kennel cough, which the vet was certain he contracted at the dog park. I think most of our babies are used to such clean environments; they probably have little resistance when confronted with a lot of contamination. I probably won’t attend another in a dog park, but plan to go to Passionate Pet in Jan.

I won't be going to dog parks anymore. I've been taking Uni to a people park with a fully enclosed baseball diamond and let her run around there. It's in Anaheim/Placentia area, we go every sunday afternoon if anyone is interested.
