The same thing happened with my Auggie Doggie. He was 7 yrs. old when i noticed his stomach all distended and bloated. I rushed him to the vet and they thought it was pancreatitis. They kept him overnite and did alot of tests and it came back Liver Shunt Disease. He had to be on a very strict diet. They gave me Science Diet AD (canned) and he wouldn't eat it for me. This all happened the end of October 3 years ago. We were going back and forth to the vets 2 to three times a week. They put him on all sorts of medications: he was on Lasiks, Dennisol, and Batrill. The Lasiks made him urinate alot. He was not a candidate for the surgery, but they were telling me it could be controlled by diet. My poor baby, was not getting any better. He would have some good days, and alot of bad days too. I nursed him till Feb. And had to come to the painful and heartbreaking decision of putting him to sleep. To this day, when I look back, I wish I had gone to another vet for a second opinion.
My heart goes out to you, because I do know what you are going through and what your poor baby is going through. I learned alot from my experience, there is a lot of information on line about Liver Shunt Disease and the stages and what can be done as far as surgery and food. The most important thing I learned, is their diet.
Good luck with your baby. My prayers are with you both.
