My Mack (4 months) did the same thing with the barking. Drove us nuts, mainly me because some times just yip-yip-yip at nothing at all. But the God-send was a rolled up newspaper. I just slapped it against my leg and said hush. It took a couple of tries, but he hates that newspaper! If he sees me pick it up, it's hush. It even works if I have had to put him in his crate (while cleaning, etc) and I'm in the other room, just simpley smack the newspaper against my leg and a loud hush.

I even used it once when he escaped from me and was chasing our cat outside. Scared me to death, as he was headed for a wooded area, I happen to have the newspaper in my back pocket, smacked my leg and yelled stop. Boy, you would have thought he'd been shot, he stopped immediately and rolled over on his back. I was able to scoop him up and go inside.

I don't have to use it as often now, he knows hush and will usually go into a quiet "chirping" if he "really" needs something. It's much better.

Good luck!
