Double check the little scabs to make sure that they are not ear mites.
Pluck vs. no pluck:
Some say the hair catches debris thereby causing ear infections, others say the hair protects the ear canal by stopping debris from entering.
I have been taking a middle of the road approach pulling out some of the hair with my fingers, but I have never completely de-haired the ears. Also, I use a flea comb to remove any wax or debris from the ear hair.
