There are lots of anti-static sprays for just this problem. I personally like Vellus or Stazko, both of which are available on line. But Petco carries several also. Try to find one without any alcohol in it and not too much silicone as both with dry the hair further. Use a good conditioner after bath also.
Congratulations on your new puppy. Oh -- and they say "Never brush a dry dog" if you want to have much coat. So spritz a little anti-static on before brushing. Good luck.
