Default My Little CallieFlower =(

This happened a little over a month ago .. I didn't post it right away because I wasn't ready to start talking about it. My little Callie died suddenly a week before my birthday last month. She was 3 years old, and just 4 lbs. She had the most unique personality, and loved everyone. She was my other Yorkie's (Glory) best friend. They slept in the same crate at night, slept on the back of the couch together, wandered in the field together and chased the same damn mouse behind the cabinets together for the past 4 months. (It also finally died after a large dose of poison.)

I am not entirely sure what happened ... it was a mildly brisk Saturday morning, and my husband and I took the dogs for a walk down the long driveway to the mailbox to get the mail and newspaper. We walked down and back up and the dogs were playing in the grass like normal. When we got back up the hill, we started throwing a stick for our lab mix Cleo, and Callie and Glory were running around and chasing Cleo like always. I turned around to say something to my husband, and then turned back only to find my beloved little Callie laying on the ground motionless.

We hurried and brought her inside to try to revive her and were getting ready to make a trip to the vet, but she just wasn't there any more. One eye bulged out and her gums and tongue turned violet blue. A vet tech friend said those two symptoms are consistent with suffocation, but we didn't see her eat anything, and she wasn't known for eating random things off the ground (unless of course it was chicken poop or other sort of animal dropping).

We wrapped her in one of her favorite fleece blankets and put her in an oversized nike shoe box and buried her in a boulder marked grave on our property. In funeral attendance was myself, my husband, Cleo and Glory. Glory didn't understand why her buddy was in box and promptly started to bark and tried to dig her up .. twice. It was so sad and I cried for days. I know my Glory was mourning. To make her feel better, I let her start sleeping in the bed with my husband and I and I think that has helped.

Callie will be sorely missed and I think of her often. I miss her "CallieKisses" and her happy go lucky attitude. She was loved by everyone and she loved everyone.

I posted a few pictures of her. The one of her in slathered in Peanut Butter was taken a few months ago when she got stuck in a rat glue trap, and the other taken just after a bath back in the spring.
