After we lost our last little girl my mom said no more for a few years, but after a year and a cat the lack of a dog was driving me crazy so I said if I waited until after our holiday could I get one and she agreed, Alfie was born a year to the day we lost Chloe and came from the owner of Chloes dad. Then last x-mes my mom fell relly ill & was in hospital for weeks, luckily my sister took care of him but it made me realise he needed a companion in case he had to be left, but my mother said no again, she changed her mind when Alfie tried to get a life size yorkie ornament to play ball with him, cant argue with that.
I find being honest about your feelings helps. My mom is now disabled & besides working full time I'm her carer, the dogs are companionship for her and a reason for me to get out the house each day for a break and some exercise and are great stress relievers. Sometimes I get frustrated at the house training but as my mother now says I wouldn't be without them
