Like I said, prices vary depending on where you get them. We paid about $40 or 50 for ours.
In your case it sounds like I wouldn't have gone a size bigger.
Derby is supposedly between sizes too (3 and 4), but seriously, there is a bit of squish to get his paws in there (because of some hair and such too!), but then they fit like a glove! There is no movement whatsoever.
We had them fitted right in the store, and they told us to get the size 3.
