I also wanted to say welcome.

I don't have much experience with mature dogs, but you may want to consider crate training him. That way at least you would be able to monitor his habits and get him on a schedule. At the very least don't give him free roam of the house until he has mastered going out, then as he does better, give him a little more room to roam. Consistency is important too. Make sense?
