The French Barrettes that I use have an inner tension bar (which gently press the hair) causing a pretty good hold. Plus they also have tiny teeth which help to grip better. The French Barrettes I use are tiny (30mm) and, yes, I'd say they are definitely suited for Yorkies, even with a fine coat.

I will also be offering Alligator Clips - which may be another option for you. I cannot speak for how well I think they'd hold since I haven't yet received the ones I ordered. They should be available within 1-2 weeks. I expect, however, from their description that they should be equally good, if not better, at holding in place.
