Personally, I believe that humping is harmless fun for your dog, so if it doesn't gross you out, there is no problem allowing it, as long as it is directed towards appropriate objects, preferably objects that can be put away when there is company. |
I kind of tend to agree. I think for SOME dogs, it's definitely a dominance thing. But not
all. I think Jackson simply finds humping his favorite bear fun... lol. Since being neutered at 6 1/2 months old, the humping pretty much stopped but he will occasionally find his favorite bear upstairs and start goin' to town, lol. It's usually when he's bored and hasn't been exercised as much as usual. He's never
ever tried to hump another dog or a human (I wouldn't allow that). I can easily take the bear away from him without a fight, he's never once growled at me, bit me, showed his teeth anything... If he had more of a dominant personality in general, I wouldn't allow the behavior. But since he doesn't... I allow it when it happens every once in a while. He's never humped anything in front of anyone so there's nothing to be embarrased about and it hasn't affected his behavior or personality. It's actually kinda funny because he will go sneak off into the other room and one time I couldn't find him... so I went searching and there he was humping his stuffed bear all by himself and when he saw me, he stopped and gave me a look of "Uh oh, busted!"
