So since my Wookie has already been diagnosed with LP, I can't get it to cover any future surgeries he may need if it gets worse. Dang it! Wish I had known about this plan a long time ago. I think I am going to go ahead and sign up though. Because a year ago I had thought about it, decided not to, then within a week Wookie had to have emergency exploratory surgery. About $3000 in vet bills later, I think that was the wrong decision!! lol They also cover things like advertising if your dog runs away or is stolen, kenneling your dog if you become sick or hospitallized...things like that that really impressed me. Google them and check them out...
I'm wondering if you got some bad information (from one of their customer support people maybe???). Here's what their website says a pre-existing condition is:
A pre-existing condition is a condition which first occurred or showed clinical signs before the pet's coverage started or which occurred during the policy waiting period. This would include conditions that have not yet been clearly diagnosed, are currently in remission, seasonal or being controlled via prescription medications.

A lot of "genetic" conditions are congenital, something they are born with (such as liver shunt, etc...), which would fall under the "which first occurred" category. Even though you didn't know about it yet or it hadn't been diagnosed yet, it will be deemed pre-existing.....because it IS pre-existing. After reading the FAQ from the website AND knowing what I know about insurance companies, I would be VERY surprised if this company covered anything congenital. Now, that being said, LP is a genetic condition, but I don't believe it's congenital, since it take many dogs years to start showing symptoms. So, if you had the insurance prior to the diagnosis, they probably WOULD cover that. I just didn't want others to be confused and realize too late that the insurance isn't going to cover something congenital.
