I'm going through that right now (I'm a junior in high school). Not with the dog, with the cat. My parents would be more than willing to keep her while I'm at school, but she gets SO upset whenever I leave, I'm just concerned that she would have a very hard time with the adjustment. I've been specifically putting money aside so if it works out the way I hope it does, I am able to rent an apartment so I can take my cat with me.

What if you sent your parents some money for food/vet/etc so they wouldn't feel like you just dumped your dog on them?

My mom has actually hinted that if I pay her she would keep Cody! So I might consider that. Cody is just a momma's boy thats all and I'd hate to have to "dump" him for a year or however long it might take for me to get an apartment.
