The more you do it the easier it gets. Do you bathe him before brushing?
I use a grooming arm that attaches to my counter top. That leaves both hands free to work on the coat. But I have been doing this with mine since they were puppies, so they are very used to it.
If he is matted too badly then you might need to take him and have him clipped short so you can start fresh and just keep doing it regularly after that. If it is not real bad then I would work on just one section a day until you get through it all.
I have 8 dogs in full coat and they all get bathed and brused every Sunday. |
