I bought our Derby these shoes, but the colors a bit different. Exact same style though.

If the shoes are "flying off" then you didn't get the right size, or maybe not a good enough quality shoe. In order for them to walk in the shoes they must be both the right size and the right fit. The bottoms on these shoes are amazing for traction (and protection from the salt and stuff), and Derby doesn't seem to mind them at all. We've been practicing!

I'm not too sure if I would make the boot myself.
