Make regular "lock-ups" normal, when you are home, or away for a while. Don't make a fuss, just lock up , and walk away!
When it is normal, you can extend the time.
When my 1 year old was a pup, he had regular lock-up, on w/e's to keep with his week day schedual, till he was 6 months, he never missed his afternoon nap! Routine is really important, at this age.
