I recently bought Remy a Celltei pet carrier. I love it, he does not
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions how I can get him acclimated. He is going to be flying with me in June, its an international flight, so he's going to have to get used to the carrier! He has never been crated, so I don't know if that is part of the adjustment issue???
The bag arrived about 3 weeks ago. I opened it up, had it on the floor at home and in the office and tried to get him used to it. I've been calling it "Remy's bag". When playing I get him to run through it like a tunnel, chasing his toys. I put treats in it that he would go in and eat. He did not seem to mind it, and would go over to sniff it, or even lay next to it. We did this for a few weeks so he would not be afraid of it.
DH is traveling this week on business, so I decided this may be a good time to begin putting him in the bag. He does not sit still in the car, and it is dangerous when I've driving with him alone. Anyhow, I did not have any trouble getting him in the bag, I put his treats in - he went in to get them and I just zipped him up. At first he was fine. Then he stared crying and pawing at the sides. I tried to be comforting, but it escalated into this nonstop cry / bark / howl. It sounded like he was being tortured... When we got to the office, I unzipped the bag, he hopped out. I put some treats in the bag which he happily went in to eat. We've done this three times, and the crying / barking is not diminishing.
I wonder if I just have to "fight through it?".... and keep using the bag and hope he stops the crying / barking?? Is there anything else I can try??? For travel he is going to have to be quiet, and I am not comfortable with the prospect of sedation. But there is no way that we'd be able to deal with the crying / howling on a plane...
The bag is big enough for him - he can easily turn around so I don't think he is physically uncomfortable.
Anyone else have a carrier-hater that turned into a carrier-lover?
