I was going to suggest switching food bowls, too. Most of mine don't care where the food is when it's time to eat, but Murphy just won't eat out of regular dishes.
I think maybe it's the noise of the kibble moving around & clicking against the dish. Anyway, Murphy would love it if I just put his food straight on the floor for him (he moves it there anyway before he starts chewing).
