When does he do this? How often? Does it seem obsessive? What kind of shampoo do you use? What food do you feed him? Seems like a lot of questions, huh?

Either or both of these could be just a simple itch, food allergy, dry skin, reaction to the shampoo you're using, reaction to a chemical, or anxiety. Your vet should have discussed all these things with you.

Try to keep track of when he does it. Check his skin to see if there are any dry patches or flakes. Have you shampooed your carpet recently? Changed detergents?

Unless he's doing something besides the rubbing and licking - I would say you could rule out neurological.

(Mine do this after they get their face washed or after their bath)
