I prefer a docked tail and doubt AKC standard will change anytime soon. The standard clearly states tail should be docked, why take the risk showing different than what the standard calls for? IMHO that's throwing money out the window, I find it doubtful an undocked tail will win majors (at least in an expeditious manner, no matter the overall quality of the dog or bitch).
May I ask why you were compelled to purchase out of the country? just curious! I find there is such a huge difference in pet, breeding and show quality from country to country, buying a puppy would be a crap shoot IMH.
There's so many beautiful lines and predigrees available in the US. What I find interesting bloodlines and looks vary so much from coast to coast.
