That is too rare. My grandmother used this method to keep fleas off her Boston, all her grandchildern including me have done this for over 50 years, many others I know that have been doing this and no problem. In fact your the first that said it had an adverse affect on your dog. Hopefully it wasn't something else, or used too strongly.
