Are there side walks or other concrete things around your yard, maybe even some furniture? Sorry if this sounds gruesome but maybe check them for blood, if a hawk did snatch him up that might be a good clue.

No, nothing like that my backyard is pretty bare with a small tree in one corner. I have a concret porch and another slab of concrete that has nothing on it and have not seen anything like that .I have talked to some people who have experience and knowledge of hawks. They mainly come down and attack a small animal but its very rare to carry one. When they do, they dont go far maybe a few hundred feet and they drop the animal because hawks themselves weigh 3-4 1/2 lbs. As close as I was I really feel I would have heard him scream. Once I took him out and a red ant crawled up his leg the screams could be heard probably to the next block or so.
I drive block by block every morning driving 5 mph scanning all the roads, looking at people walking their pets and talking to them.

Trust me yesterday I went into the neighbors yard that no longer lives there. I got soaked but I lifted every bucket, branch...anything
