go through a reputable rescue organization, not just some ad in the paper or on craigslist.

As another poster said. Post what you are willing to pay and give your location. check on puppyfind.com.

contact breeders in your area and ask if they have any adults or larger puppies that they would sell for less. Many times the large puppies sell for much less, but are still very nice dogs.

What the biggest concern for many breeders is, if you cannot affor $800 to buy one, how are you going to afford vet care if it gets sick or injured.
