Sorry for just getting back to you. It's really hard plastic. The lights lite up Daisy goes crazy for it. She tries to pick it up by the tail. I personaly dont think it can be destroyed. The minute i turn it on she's ready to play with it. The toy is bark/paw activated as well. As for the rug i havent tried it on the rug, I'll try tonight and let you know
