I have two daughters one is almost four and the other almost two. Our older 8lb yorkie does great with them and actually prefers children to adult. But she was raised with little ones, and is a bit bigger.
Our little Mia who is four months old and is 3lb has a lick and dash method with our little ones and our friends (we have a lot of toddlers running around the house) I think it is a good idea to keep the little kids at a safe distance. Our girls are monitored closely and are very good with dogs in general. But when the other kids are not yours (and you can not discipline them) they may not have the proper respect for animals.
I do think it would be good for you to socialize your yorkie with small children in a controlled environment for short periods of time. Good luck! hope this helps
