I was having the same problem with Jasper. It was making my fiance more mad than it was me, but I asked the trainer about it. She told me of a couple training games that seem to be working already:
My favorite is "puppy pingpong" which takes 2 people, and you start a few feet apart and one person calls the puppy and give him/her the treat when he comes, then back the other way... you do that a few times then spread out a little further... teaches the puppy to come when called.
Another good one is Hide and Seek. You can do it by yourself by distracting the puppy with a toy or a bit of their food and then hiding and calling puppy and giving him a treat when he finds you.
