My vet suggested this too. She only gets a tiny bit (amount depends on their weight). I give it to her right before I leave her alone as she has very bad separation anxiety.
But, I don't give it to her often as she is usually with my parents when I am gone.
There is no harm in giving Children's Benedryl to a Yorkie if you follow doctor's orders. It does make them sleepy, and calms them down. I use a syringe to measure it out and your vet has them.
