I only use it when necessary--during flea season. Because there is such a difference between a 7 lb yorkie and a 22lb dog, I used the dosage for a cat, (.5) That gave me 8 doses.

This is how I buy mine too.I also experimented with giving less than recommended to my babies.I had very good sucess giving them a minimal amount.
