I think if you are putting a dog in a small crate and buckling it in- they are very safe. A dog that is in a carseat is going to get jostled around no matter how tightly they are tethered in and often windows break and things go flying when in a car accident. I think they are great for keeping a dog from roaming and thus causing a distraction. I would rather Layla get "thrown" 6 inches in her crate than having to worry about broken glass cutting her. I just think to myself- If i am in an accident with her- no one is going to worry about taking care of my dog should she be hurt. And if i am taken away in an ambulance- what happens to Lay? If she is in a crate- she will stay there and I keep an emergency number attached to her crate so they have someone to call.
I don't care what anyone else does but I don't think it is fair to say a dog in a crate buckled in is dangerous.
