I completely agree with LadyJane and while it would be wonderful if everyone could give trials with over 5 million animals being put down EVERY year due to over breeding by breeders this is not realistic. I also think more is going on with this dog because very few shelters will turn down anyone. Rescues will turn people down but shelters are state run and have laws they have to follow. They gamble knowing that 50% of the dogs they adopt out will be returned but at least 50% of the dogs/cats survived. The ones that don't get adopted usually only have a short time to live in the shelters.
My suggestion to Carmen is call the shelter and see what their policy is.
How many children did this family have? AKC used to have it on their websited and at dog shows would make the statement these dogs are not the best for families with small children. Some of the reputable breeders on this website also will not sell to families with small children.
