I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. Yes, it does sound like some sort of insecurity issue. When JoJo was a puppy he used to bite too (but in a playful manner), and I was scared he was going to grow up a to be an aggressive biter, but luckily he grew past that phase and he is sweet as pie now.

One thing I did and still do was have him learn to eat from my hands, as to show that I'm the "boss", so to speak. Also, whenever he ate from his bowl, I wanted to make sure he never got any food aggression, so I would put my fingers in the bowl, move it around, pick it up, etc., just to show him again that he was not the alpha.

I saw on a program once that with dogs that are already exhibiting food-related aggression, you can use some sort of extension (to keep your hand safe) to poke around in their food bowl while they eat to help rid them of that behavior.

Whatever you try, I hope you find a way to fix this behavior. Please don't give up on the little guy!
