One day my son and I were walking our Westie, Ringo, at a trail and all of a sudden two german shephards were running toward us. Matthew reached down and picked up Ringo and then the two GSD's were circling around my son trying to get to Ringo. I was terrified.
From far away - I saw two men running toward us yelling, they're friendly! Ha. They don't look all that friendly when they are circling around my young son trying to get to my Westie (who HATES big dogs).
I was so mad. I just kept saying - PLEASE GET YOUR DOGS PLEASE GET YOUR DOGS. They had no control whatsoever. And we do have a leash law. It turned out I knew one of the men - and he is a nice guy - but his wife has convinced him . . no more running loose on a trail with the GSD.
It scared me. Now that I'm walking two dogs (my little Yorkie puppy too); I want to get a can of pepper spray or something. Because if those two dogs had decided they wanted to get to my son or to Ringo - there was nothing I could have done.
Part of it is my fault; I am scared of german shephards ever since I was a kid and my girlfriend got bit. So I panicked when they were circling around Matthew. |
Along with that can of pepper spray you might as well add a "crow bar" or better yet, a "taser-gun" to thwart an attack in progress. You'll be surprised how little pepper spray will do in the midst of a dog attack frenzy...especially with Pit Bulls.
I speak from experience so...spare me any pm's about being anti-dog loving. I just don't love the inept who keep buying these dogs and then can't handle them when they act out inappropriately! Then where do you think they dump 'em...just take a look at any online Animal Shelter in your area and you'll find the bulk of all dogs there are either Pit Bulls or a Pit Bull Mix...nearly the rest will be Chihuahua's...
Oops...most importantly! I'm so relieved to read that Kingston survived a close encounter with what could have been his last walk...hugs to you both!
