wow, that's scary.

but you're not far from the truth. 4 days before my dog's whelp, the mother was playing with the daughter but she got irritated and next thing i know there was some blood on the kitchen floor and apparently the daughter hit the mother's ear. nothing serious but it definitely scared me.

the mother DOES get very curious and approaches the puppies. at one point she even ate the puppies' poop/cleaned them when the daughter ran outside to relieve herself.

i'll follow your advice and find a way to keep them apart. i think i'd faint to see one of them lose an eye!
