Generally it gets better. Depending on how young your pup is and how long you have them and what age you got them all factors into how much crying you'll get.
When I crated my pups, I always put a shirt that I had wore and put it in the crate. They had my scent and it seemed to calm them. I also put the crate up on a table, where they could see me during the night and if they cried, I put my fingers in the crate so they knew I was still there.
It does get better as they get older.
