I would definitely recommend pre-op blood work. It's a good way to assure that your baby's liver will be able to handle and metabolize the anesthesia BEFORE they do the surgery.

Rio was just spayed 2 days ago and I had the optional pre-op blood work done. My vet has a lab in-house so they did the tests the morning before her surgery. Blood tests were good, and her spay was routine (with a few baby teeth pulled too).
