Dogs develop food allergies over time with constant exposure to the same ingredient. I agree that it's unlikely they have food allergies at their age.
Did you know that inhaled/environmental allergies are far more common that food allergies? Dogs can be allergic to grasses, trees, laundry detergents, etc. just like we are. I'd bet that is what you dogs are experiencing.
Adding fatty acids/fish oil can boost their immune system and really help with allergies.
