What type of lead and collar should I take? Do you think the halter will be okay? Bilbo is well-behaved on the halter and leash, so should I not worry about that?

What should I watch out for? I don't want someone mean, but I do need someone who is firm.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
Harness and lead should be fine.
Take treats smaller then or about the size of your little fingers nail.
Watch for anyone teaching you need to dominate or alpha your dog. Means they are lost in the stone age and that they may coach yank and correct and not actually teach.

What you want is to teach the dog the action by clicker.shaping or by luring then after the dog gets the idea you name the task he or she is learning.

If you start by saying sit and scolding it until it figures out what is to be done that is not useful.

Firm is saying the request once and waiting the dog out not nagging at it until it does it and teaching the skill well enough and generalizing it to other places not just your house or the class room.

Firm is more being consistent than anything else.
