| I'm a new Yorkie mommy, so I can only share my experience so far. We rescued Galahad almost 2 weeks ago. He had been abandoned out in the middle of nowhere and on his own for well over a month before I even got him to let me pet him. The vet put him around 18 months to 2 years old. He is SO loving. He is snuggly, he shadows me everywhere, he lays at my feet and sleeps. He sleeps up against me in bed, he waggles his whole hind end if he so much as hears my voice, and as soon as he sees me, no one else exists. He's a kissy face, he loves to lay next to me on the couch and bathe my feet and legs. If someone tries to smack me, just playfully, he growls at them, just as a warning. My husband was giving me a shoulder massage and he hit one of those spots that hurts and feels nice at the same time, and I let out an involuntary yelp. Galahad was up like a shot and on me to make sure I was okay, giving my hubby the stinkeye and showing him the teeth, lol. Once I told him it was okay, he was fine. He loves my hubby too, but not the same way. He gets excited when he comes home from work, but after he's been here about 2 minutes the novelty has worn off. Mommy has everlasting novelty, lol. He adores the children. He lets them pick him up and cuddle him (they know to be gentle as they've been around small animals their entire lives), he gives them kisses, and my 6 y/o son has already taught him to fetch and play tug-of-war with his favorite toy. I would tell you to go with your instinct. We had been searching for a dog to complete our family since our older dog (13 years) passed away, but never found the right one. We knew we wanted an adult dog, and that we would have preferred to rescue one, but had the right puppy shown up, we would have gone that route. No puppy ever presented itself, and then Galahad did.
