I was having a problem with the hair getting in the way of the snap too. What is working for me is to twist the hair and then once you put the bow around the hair pull the bow side so that the snap is unblocked, then pull the elastic side so that it can be snapped. I hope I explained that right I found that it really helped to keep practicing. Good luck!
