I have never had one growl at me but mine will definitely growl at other dogs when they are in the early stages of labor. Once I see mine trying to get away from the other dogs I know it is time for us to move to the bedroom where it is quiet. I will just kick back and watch tv with one eye on the momma. The nerve racking part comes when the hard contractions start. I try to not bother the momma to much then because they need to concentrate. I will just reach down occasionally when the momma is having a hard contraction and feel for the puppy bulge. Once I feel the pup bulging I watch mom very closely. Sometimes the pup will bulge during a contraction but when the contractions stop the pup will go back in. With each set of contractions the pup should come out a little more. Eventually when enough of the pup has presented itself she will push it on out. It can get very stressful when a pup is stuck half in and half out. Also, don't be surprised if mom lets out a big yelp when the pup pops out. |
